I wanna be a hardcore grandma when I grow up!!
I went to a show today with Inhale/Exhale, Twelve Gauge Valentine, Destroy the Runner, August Burns Red, and The Chariot. It was at The Cave, in San Jose, and the venue is actually a small santuary converted into a show area. Maybe it was because the people who run it are Christian, or they don't serve alcohol at the place, but there was a pretty posi feel to the whole thing.
I/H: I missed most of their set, because 101 was backed up, even on the "good" parts. They actually seemed pretty good, but I think they are more of a screamo band, because they sang a lot, and not many hardcore bands have only 4 members.
TGV: I liked some of their stuff, but since I wasn't as familiar with their music, I didn't enjoy them as much as the other bands. I actually bought one of their cds because it came with a shirt deal.
DTR: These guys were really awesome!! I already liked them before I saw them, but seeing them live was very different from the cd! They also replaced some of the singing with screaming. =) I saw the coolest thing during this set. A grandma (I think the drummer's grandma?) watched the ENTIRE set and even went up to the front! I so wanna do that when I'm old. I just need a grandson in a hardcore band... =)
ABR: This was the band I truly wanted to see, and they did not disappoint!! =) They actually PRAYED at the beginning, and jumped right into brutally hard music! I've never seen that before... This set also showed me that I could never ever be a hardcore guitarist. They play very very fast and complicated crap...
The Chariot: Those guys are The Chariot, and Jesus Christ loves me. That's what they told me to kick off their set. They were crazy wild, climbing, throwing, jumping, falling... The lead singer threw his mic too high, because after it fell, it didn't work half the time, hehehe... =) Those guys were pretty crazy... The crowded got pretty rowdy also, and there were lots of kids getting pushed around and crap.
Workout Update:
Today, I did the erg as I usually do on Thursdays, but this time, I decided to actually go hard. I usually take it pretty easy, and just try to get my heart rate up a little. Today, I did it 3 times, 1000m each. My 500m averages were: 1:51, 1:52, and 1:52.30, for the 3 runs. After each run though, I wanted to cry. I haven't erged hard in a long time. I really suck now. =( I remember when I used to erg at Cornell, and I would do 4000m all at once, and average right around 2:00. Today, I could barely do 1000m at a time. Erging is definitely one of the best cardio exercises, and most people don't know it. There aren't too many other things you can burn 225 calories in around 11 minutes. Ok, so it totally hurts like crap throughout and after the workout, but a little pain doesn't hurt. Actually, that makes no sense. O well, goodnight!
