Weekend In NoCA!

I went to Northern California with my family this weekend. On the way there, we stopped at Hearst Castle which is this huge castle near the coast. It was a pretty cool place because it was so big and extravagant. I thought the indoor pool and the personal movie theater were cool, especially since those seem more like present day luxuries. Well, since the castle was near the coast, we had to use the coastal route for the rest of the trip. The scenery was amazing but it really killed the average speed of the drive. The road was VERY windy and it was only 2 lanes. There were a couple of times where I was really annoyed at the person in front of me because they didn't go faster! I was in a Grand Cherokee so any other smaller car would probably have a much easier time maneuvering those curves so they should have been going faster!

Eventually, I got to Stanford. It was a really nice day, like all other days I've experienced in CA. This west coast has amazing weather! We walked around the campus for a bit, which is not that easy because it is pretty large. It's a very nice place and I think it's gonna be cool living there. Maybe I just don't know the area as well, but I still think Cornell's campus looks nicer... =)

We went to San Francisco for the night and went to some chinese restaurant for dinner. Everything was pretty much normal until we were leaving. As we were leaving, a huge rat darted across the floor! You could tell where in the restaurant the rat was by the screams it induced. That is probably not the best thing to witness in the restaurant you just finished eating at. I still found it kinda funny... =) The most interesting part of that was that the waitresses didn't seem surprised by the rat at all. Maybe they're used to it? =\ O well, I'm not dead or sick or anything, so it's all good. On the way back from Northern California, I took the better, faster highway which was great because a lot of the time I got to go about 85-90 mph. However, I encountered more annoying drivers than usual. I really hated it when the guy in front of me did not go faster or get out of the faster lane. That happened more than it should have, which really annoyed me. I am not even an aggressive driver, and it still annoyed me how "not fast" they were going. I guess going slower is fine, but they should really get out of the left lane!

Overall, the stuff I visited was pretty cool, but I think there was way too much driving for 2 days. Was all that time sitting in the car really worth seeing those things? O well, I put up some pictures I took. I think some of them are pretty random so beware!

ps. I downloaded the converge album on limewire (which i hate doing because you get all diff rips and bit rates and stuff, especially on more popular stuff, I ddownloaded the kanye west album and its awful the variety of the rips of the songs) anyway, it really really rocks, except for the accoustic song which is probably the worst coverge song ever. I really like songs 2, 4 and 6 (2 was annoying to me at first but it really is totally cool).

  • Wow, that coastal highway sounds like it would be really fun to drive if no one was on it. The other day I got to ride in a friend of a friends STI (he'd made a few modifications so it was actually even faster than the stock STI) and it was amazing, I can hardly imagine what it would be like driving it on the windy roads you speak of (without the slow bitches that is).

People driving slow in the left lane also annoys me. I'm fine with people going slow in the right lane, but if you're in the left lane and you see someone come up behind you no matter how fast you're going your #1 duty is to move to the right lane and let them pass.

As for a lot of driving in 2 days, I wonder how many miles you actually traveled. My record is 1500 in 4 days (over fall break when the sniper was in town), it was mostly broken up into little 100 mile trips, plus the big ones up and back from Cornell, so it wasn't so bad (except whenever I had to fill my tank).
